In 1941, the J.L. Hudson Company of Detroit designed a flag for each of Michigan's 83 Counties, and each County once had its own flag; however, Ingham County's former flag is the only one of these flags to have been rediscovered. Currently, only a few of the 83 Counties have a county flag, while others have only a county seal.[1] Some have de facto flags, e.g., Kalamazoo County,[2]Manistee (which seems to use the City of Manistee flag),[3]Mason County[4] do not have flags. Some reportedly do not have official flags, but they are used nonetheless, e.g.,Muskegon County.[5] Others e.g., Alpena County,[6]Genesee County[7] are apparently copyrighted.
