MIDI?

[edit]

Which software is recommended for creating MIDI files? I would use Modplug Tracker, which is free software, but Commons provides no way to upload .mod, .s3m, .xm, or .it files. --Damian Yerrick () 23:01, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There was a software that was able to check in which pages of all Wikis a certain image is being used. Could someone show me how to find this software? Why is it not listed at this page? Thanks! --Tonyjeff 11:09, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GIMP + jpegpixi

[edit]

I made a Python-Fu script to use GIMP as a GUI to run jpegpixi: User:AVRS/gimp-jpegpixi.py. Note that it gets only the file name and the coordinates from GIMP, not the image data, so any unsaved changes are ignored; also it requires that grid has offset 0x0 and cells 8x8, and sets them to that if they are not, but requires a restart of the script (please tell me if that’s bad). Tested with GIMP 2.8. Disclaimer+: it is one of my first Python scripts. --AVRS (talk) 19:06, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Microsoft Image Composite Editor

[edit]

The license for Microsoft Image Composite Editor says "You may not use [...] this Software [...] for commercial purposes. Examples of commercial purposes would be [...] using the Software in the creation [...] of commercial products or any other activity which purpose is to procure a commercial gain to you or others." This may imply that the resulting images cannot be used for any commercial purposes. Considering that Commons:Licensing does not accept images licensed for non-commercial use only, should we remove this program from the list of recommended software? If yes, we should also decide what we should do about the images in the category. Razvan Socol (talk) 17:22, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that's necessary. I doubt that many of our users are contributing here for the "purpose [of] procuring a commercial gain." --Philosopher Let us reason together. 09:47, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Libre office

[edit]

When I try to insert .ogg files into Libre office impress, libre office gives an error message, something like "internal format not supported". I can play the music files (such as ) on my W10 laptop.

Suggestions anyone? Teun Spaans 18:44, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think darktable should be included in the list of recommended "5-stars" as it is the most active open-source raw photograph editor. It is the OSS alternative to Lightroom, which is complementary to GIMP/Photoshop. --Trougnouf (talk) 10:59, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this. Darktable is a more straightforward way to editing raw images. It also supports batch image processing. --JETH888 talk 08:40, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I was just thinking the same. And unlike e.g. Dia it's in active development. El Grafo (talk) 11:43, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This software is libre, cross-platform, and useful for creating simple audio spectrographs. Not very complicated but not very flexible either. Arlo James Barnes 01:13, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
