The plan shows how the station was divided between 1st class passengers and 2nd class passengers. According to the 1914 article from which this plan was taken, "1st class" was for white passengers and "2nd class" was for non-white passengers. Note that each "class" had separate waiting rooms, separate rest rooms, separate ticket windows, and separate walkways to separate train platforms. According to the source article, trains were composed so that 1st class coaches would be aligned with the 1st class platform, while 2nd class coaches at the opposite end of the train would be aligned with the 2nd class platform, with a baggage car separating the two classes of coaches.
