Summary[edit]

Description
English: The 3rd USA Science and Engineering Festival, held in Washington, DC, on April 25-27, 2014, attracted an estimated 320,000 attendees. Visitors to NSF’s exhibits and stage shows eagerly engaged in hands-on activities and were amazed by the breadth of research and education projects supported by the agency. There were robots everywhere, but the snakebot, developed at Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute, grabbed the attention—and sometimes, the legs—of visitors. Inspired by biological creatures, snakebots have applications in search-and-rescue operations, surgery and industry. The complete list of NSF’s exhibits and stage shows is available [www.nsf.gov/news/news_summ.jsp?cntn_id=131181 here]. Credit: Jessica Arriens, National Science Foundation
