English: This picture, taken inside a storage facility near Poitiers, France, shows the first segments of ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope main mirror packaged into individual boxes, ready for shipping. In total, 798 mirror segments will comprise the 39-metre diameter mirror, with 133 additional segments also being produced. On this occasion, only the first 18 were in the process of being shipped. |
