Summary[edit]

Description
English: Pictured here are some of the volunteers in a study of the effects of food preservatives on health, conducted at the Bureau of Chemistry, which succeeded the Division of Chemistry and preceded FDA, around 1902. The participants were fed carefully measured quantities of different additives as part of a standardized diet. One of the many journalists who covered this story dubbed this group, “the poison squad.” 3 week diet review For more information about FDA history visit www.fda.gov/AboutFDA/WhatWeDo/History/default.htm
