Nederlands: Repronegatief. De Plantentuin, die nog steeds bestaat, werd opgericht in 1817 door de Amsterdamse hoogleraar in de botanie C.G.C. Reinwardt. De tuin is aangelegd op het terrein van het paleis van de Gouverneur-Generaal. Dat gebouw zien we op de foto op de achtergrond. Er had op die plek sinds het midden van de 18e eeuw een paleis gestaan. De plantentuin was aanvankelijk vooral bedoeld als een botanische tuin, te vergelijken met een hortus botanicus in een Nederlandse universiteitsstad, maar het was (en is) toch voor de meeste mensen in de eerste plaats een park om te wandelen.
