The main planning of the memorial is being done by prominent freedom fighter Brigadier Abdur Rob. Its architect is Rajiuddin Ahmed.

Architectural significance, location and details

This memorial is located at Bhadra intersection on Shaheed Captain Birshrestha Jahangir road of the city. It is named 'Omlan' as a symbol of the existence of Bangladesh. The main pillar of Smriti Amlan is placed on top of a circular altar. The round altar is 1.06 m (3 ft 6 in) high, 13.70 m (45 ft) wide and the main pillar below the altar is 9.65 m (31 ft 8 in) in diameter. The altar of the Smriti Amlan memorial has a blue-mica stone cover. This stone cover is shown as a symbol of the pain of nearly two lakh victimized mothers and sisters during the great independence war of Bangladesh.

From the center of the main round altar three pillars are placed straight up. The height of these three monuments is about 24.00 meters (80 feet) from the ground. Each pillar has 24 steps on the outside. From 1947 to 1971 these 24 stages were used to indicate the progress of the various stages of the freedom movement. In addition, there are 10 holes in each pillar, totaling 30 holes. These 30 holes are kept to symbolize the contribution of 3 million martyrs in the war.

The diameter of the main pillar at the apex of the pillar is 2.80 m (9 ft 2 in). At the top of the pillar is a sphere. The diameter of the sphere is 3 meters (10 feet). And the height of the pillar from the ground to the bottom of the sphere is 21.64 meters (71 feet). With this sphere, the attainment of independence through the great liberation war in 1971 and the intense presence of independence is placed as a symbol of the sun.
